The Inner Critic & Self-Judgment
Explore why the inner critic evolved and how it shapes your behavior today.
Hearing without believing changes the texture of thought.
Words arrive, echo, then thin out as they fade.
You hear them clearly, without giving them the weight of truth.
This separation restores choice. Sound remains sound. Meaning is optional.

You must "Separate Sound from Belief." In the model, inner dialogue is treated as "Acoustic Brain Activity"—no different than a humming refrigerator. Just because your brain produces a "sentence" doesn't mean it’s a "truth." By treating the inner critic as a "sound event," you create the distance needed for the Narrative & Identity system to evaluate the data without being forced into a belief.
Label the thought as an event: "I am experiencing the sound of a judgment." This shifts the thought from a "command" to an "occurrence." By focusing on the fact that a thought is happening rather than the content of the thought, you de-automate the belief reflex. You are the space where the sound occurs, but you are not the sound itself.
